COMMUNITY PROJECT
An estimated 5,000 Yezidis live in the Netherlands. Due to the harrowing situation in Syria and Iraq, this number is increasing. Especially in the past 5 years, many Yezidis have fled to the Netherlands in search of a safe home.
The current situation in the asylum reception center in Ter Apel is worrying. Hundreds of men, women and, above all, children sleep outside on the streets due to a shortage of shelter capacity.
It is therefore extremely important to help newcomers with basic facilities.
With this project, the NL Helps Yezidis team has been supporting as many Yazidi newcomers in the Netherlands as possible since 2021. In collaboration with foundations such as NIDOS, NL Helps Yezidis tries to find foster homes for Yazidis children, buy food for people, bring clothes and assistance when it comes to accessing medical aid.

De Immigratie en Naturalisatie Dienst (IND) wordt bekritiseerd vanwege het terugsturen van Yezidi-vluchtelingen naar de Koerdische regio, wat heeft geleid tot protesten en verontwaardiging. Yezidi's hebben in het verleden ernstige vervolging en genocide ervaren, waardoor er bezorgdheid is over hun veiligheid bij terugkeer. Bovendien hebben veel Yezidi-vluchtelingen te maken met trauma en hebben ze specifieke ondersteuning nodig.
Ondanks beweringen van de IND dat ze geen Yezidi's meer terugsturen, zijn er nog steeds meldingen van dreigende uitzettingen. Dit onderstreept de behoefte aan voortdurende monitoring en aandacht voor de situatie van Yezidi-vluchtelingen. De protesten laten zien dat er groeiend bewustzijn en verzet is tegen dit beleid, en er moet zorgvuldig worden gekeken naar de individuele asielaanvragen van Yezidi-vluchtelingen met aandacht voor hun specifieke situatie en behoeften.
